Relay: query your app's data with SQL
A live, read-only SQL copy of your app for Power BI, Tableau, Looker Studio, Excel and any SQL tool.
On this page
Relay gives your app a live, read-only SQL database. Connect Power BI, Tableau, Looker Studio, Excel or any SQL tool and build reports on your Tadabase data. Changes in your app show up in Relay within seconds.
Who can use Relay #
- Relay is included on the Tadabase AI Business plan for one app. If your plan doesn't include it, Settings > Relay (SQL access) shows the plan it starts on. Need it on more apps? Contact us.
- The app owner turns Relay on and manages it. The owner can also let a collaborator manage it under Settings > Who can manage Relay. Other collaborators see the status only.
- Apps with HIPAA turned on can't use Relay yet. Contact us if you need it.
Turn it on #
- Open Relay Open your app in the Tadabase builder (build.tadabase.io) and go to Settings > Relay (SQL access).
- Choose who can connect Add the IP addresses that will connect; your current address is added for you. Only these addresses can connect. Use a range like
203.0.113.0/24for an office network. - Read the notice Read Before you turn on Relay and tick the box.
- Turn on Relay Building the copy takes a few minutes. We email you when it's ready.
Connect a tool #
The Connect tab shows the host, port (3306), database name and your logins, plus ready-made settings for Power BI (.pbids file), Tableau (.tds file), Looker Studio, Excel/ODBC, Python and JDBC. Every connection must use TLS.
Passwords are shown once. If you lose one, press New password next to the login; tools using the old password then need the new one. We never email passwords.
What's in it #
- Every table and field of your app, with readable table and column names, plus a table per connection field (for example
orders__customer). The Tables & columns tab lists them. - Never copied: password fields, login tokens, and fields that look like secrets (for example a Users field named "API Key"). Tables or fields you exclude aren't copied at all.
- Your app's logs (emails sent, logins, API calls) are optional, and never include message bodies.
Limits #
| Starter | Pro | Max | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Logins | 2 | 10 | 25 |
| Allowed IP entries | 10 | 50 | 250 |
| Connections at once (whole app) | 10 | 20 | 30 |
| Queries per hour (per login and IP) | 10,000 | 100,000 | No limit |
| Longest query | 60 s | 5 min | 10 min |
| Query history kept | 30 days | 90 days | 90 days |
Your tier comes with your plan. Queries that hit a limit are stopped and listed under Activity > Limits hit.
Security and activity #
- Every connection and query is logged. Activity shows who connected, from where, and what they ran. You can export the query log as CSV.
- Lock all access ends every open connection within seconds and locks every login.
- A login can have an end date; it's locked automatically after that day.
- If someone who created or saw a login's password stops managing Relay, that login is marked needs a new password and the owner is emailed.
Plans, billing and turning off #
- If your plan stops including Relay, logins are paused and Relay turns off after 7 days unless the plan includes it again.
- If the account's billing isn't up to date, logins are paused until it is.
- Turn off Relay (Settings tab) locks every login at once. The copy is deleted 30 days later; turning Relay on again in that time builds a fresh copy.
Status messages #
When something needs attention, Relay shows a short message with a code such as RL-302 · K7Q2MF. Press Copy details for support and send it to us; the code tells us exactly what happened.
